The stethoscope is the most common diagnostic tool used by internal and external gynaecologists and paediatricians, and is also the doctor's calling card. The stethoscope has been used in clinical practice since 8 March 1817 and its shape and the way it transmits sound have been constantly improved, but its basic structure has remained essentially unchanged, consisting mainly of a receiving part (chest piece), a conducting part (rubber tube) and an auditory part (ear piece).

The stethoscope is the most common diagnostic tool used by doctors, mainly for examining the heart, lungs and arteries. The stethoscope basically consists of three parts: the stethoscope head, the conduction tube and the ear tube. To use the stethoscope, first look at the direction of the ear tube and pull the ear tube of the stethoscope outwards, tilting it forward and inserting it into the external ear canal. This is because the angle at which the ear tube is tilted forward coincides with the direction of the human ear canal, making it easier for sound to travel. The stethoscope head should be placed on the skin surface of the area being listened to and pressed gently to ensure that the stethoscope head is placed firmly against the skin on the one hand to ensure good sound transmission and on the other hand to prevent noise from the stethoscope head rubbing against the skin.
