Easter 2014: this current year, we chose to be unfaithful (once will not do any harm) to our dear Villa Cassiopée on the island of Skiathos, a luxury Greek villa, and to Orthodox Easter traditions to visit the French regions of Provence and Languedoc-Roussillon with our three children.
Without Doubt influenced by a recognized French TV program, I need to experiment the solution "Bed and Breakfast" also offering a host table, I had watched on the TV that is french the formula "Bed and Breakfast" including a host table. I had found this interesting in particular because of my son that is youngest needs to sleep in the evening while the rest of the family can take the evening meal on spot.
I wanted to find an attractive, different, beautifully furnished and, in addition, not too pricey. decided to look for a lovely, atypical, nicely decorated, elegant and if possible, not too expensive place. that is too expensive. It took me a few hours in the labyrinth of Internet before I finally came across the "Mas d'Alphonse", in the Duchy of Uzès, near NimesSearching on the net can be really discouraging, but fortunately, when I was ready to book any place with a roof. From its highly website that is attractive full of information and very good pictures, I understood that the Mas d'Alphonse was an harmonious combination of Provence and Thailand which was extremely appealing: I was curious to learn more about it. I had a look at one of the most important websites luxury villa holidays for holiday rentals of any types, Booking.com, before contacting the owner: the reviews and notes were extremely good.
Fortunately, I had a conversation over the phone which improved radically my first impression from the exchange of emails (it is incredible the harm a terse message by email can bring!..)
We arrived at the “ Mas d’Alphonse” at about 7 p.m. and it was love at first sight. A 19th century winemakerhouse, stone walls, old tiles, lavender shutter, eight hectares of fields planted with vineyards and cereals at my feet, a lush garden, the surprising and peaceful presence of Bouddha here and there in the property, an unexpected Thai house in the back of the garden: it was exactly what I was looking for! .... But most of all, it was "Mas d'Alphonse" that offered us a surprise that is pleasant. A 19th century winemaker stone house with azure shutters and a roof of old tiles in a property of eight hectares mostly covered by vineyards and cereals. The garden in the back area of the house had a splendid view over the vineyards and cereals as far as the eye can see. Some old trees, a table that is large the breakfast close to a fountain and the unexpected presence of Buddha were making this garden so beautiful and so peaceful.
The owner greeted us kindly and introduced us to his Thai wife, Suwannee. The entire property reflected the image of this couple: a harmonious marriage b etween Provence and Thailand that will immediately soothed the most recalcitrant stress.
stones that are;al tiles and beams and Thai furniture and refinement. We had booked the suite for us and our boy that is little Malisa room for our elder children. Therefore we occupied all the space for the guests and were enjoying complete privacy. The master suite was superb, spacious and decorated with exquisite taste: ceiling vaults, terracotta floors, old stone walls, antique Thai furniture, huge fireplace for cooler evenings and a large French door opening onto a private terrace and the beautiful countryside views. The en-suite bathroom offered luxury and character: bathtub in exotic wood, black stone tiles, soaps, fluffy bathrobes and towels.
While walking in this wonderful garden, I saw there was a small Thai house on stilts with a wooden gazebo. I entered into it and found two sofas that are comfortable some cushions, and a table with books luxury villa holidays about Thai massage on it. The house stood in a isolated and place that is peaceful the countryside views and a total absence of noise except the birds' songs. It was a haven of peace.
when we went to the dining room for diner, as it was a bit chilly, Suwannee had lit the huge fireplace which gave us the impression that we were in a big castel. The table had been prepared by her with taste and she kindly invited us to sit. She served the meal and waited discreetly to find out whether we liked it. It was delicious! Thai spring rolls with herbs from the organic garden, grilled basil beef and homemade coconut balls accompanied by a little pink in the region.
She answered our questions and kindly explained to us that the Mas d'Alphonse was originally their vacation home, where they took long breaks away from their Parisian life. Seven years before, they decided to live there permanently, choosin g to share with their guests this extraordinary quality
The next morning, a bright sunshine flooded the terrace and we were looking forward to taste the breakfast. Suwannee had prepared the table under the trees and we were served on a slate, pastries, crispy baguette, house-made jams, yogurt, fresh orange juice and coffee. Peaceful nature, kindness and gentleness of our hostess, the surroundings that are beautiful attention to detail made __this moment unique and I was fully conscious of having found a place that deserves to be recommended with confidence.
The Mas of Alphonse is close to attractions that are many we could visit in one day: the Mill of Alphonse Daudet (ah, the stories of my childhood), Les Baux de Provence and the other villages of the Alpilles, Arles, Nîmes, the Pont du Gard. It is therefore possible to concoct a varied program of excursions and return to the calmness of the Mas d’Alphonse for a evening that is relaxing.
According to their website, they also offer a "lovers" package, a package "weekend wellness" and "Thai" package: a program that is full.
