Video games for instance, appear to be the next frontier for 3D. With Killzone 3 confirmed to be 3D compatible and many more games trying to work 3D into their titles. One has to wonder though if this really ever will evolve beyond a gimmick? There are certainly some who think so, We've seen this in action and I must admit that I think 3D gaming is much more compelling than 3D movies because once you've experienced a game in 3D you'll want to buy a 3D TV. It certainly converted me. It's much more compelling. Said an SCE UK sales director in an interview with MCV. Adding to the conversation David Wilson of SCE PR feels that there are many more practical applications of 3D in gaming than in film. MotorStorm is one of the titles Final Fantasy XIV Gil mentioned in our Bravia offer, he said.. If you're a gamer playing a driving game you want to be in the driving seat, you don't want that cheaty third person view where you can see the corner coming way ahead. But when you're in the cockpit it's often quite hard to judge that corner. Take F1, as an example. You're very low to the ground on a flat circuit ï ¿ ½ it's hard to see where the world goes. 3D changes that. Here I am, here's the end of the car, here's the end of the road. That improves the experience and, donning my Tomorrow's World hat, shows where it might go in the future in terms of when people actually start making games for 3D as opposed to adapting existing titles. Now granted, we could see some cool things done with 3D in video games. Many films that integrate 3D for instance, just use it once or twice to have something jump out at your arbitrarily. In a video game, if done right this could actually be pretty cool. What if, for instance, Killzone 3 which is already confirmed as 3D capable featured bullets that shot out of the screen at you? That could be cool. Time will have to tell though, and honestly after just investing a bunch of money in still new HDTVs, whatever the benefits, we can't really see many people being keen on changing over to 3D en masse any time soon.
